In short

France has the broadest EPR in Europe: a unique number (UIN) for each product category, a compliance scheme per category and the Triman logo with recycling information on the packaging.

All included in France: registration, compliance scheme, reports and, if your company has no establishment there, an authorised representative. Categories: packaging, electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, textiles, footwear and household linen, sport and leisure, toys, furniture, DIY and garden, construction products and materials and other French categories.

Worth knowing

  • The UIN is obtained per category through the SYDEREP system of the French environment agency (ADEME) once you have joined the compliance scheme.
  • Marketplaces check the UIN and block the listings of anyone who does not have one.
  • The packaging must carry the Triman logo and the sorting information (Info-tri).

Frequently asked questions

What is the French UIN?

The unique identifier France assigns to each producer in each category subject to extended responsibility. You need one per category: packaging, electrical equipment, batteries, textiles, furniture… Marketplaces require it and it must appear in your terms of sale.

I sell clothing from Spain to French customers. Does it affect me?

Yes: textiles (Refashion) and, on top of that, the packaging you ship them in (CITEO). That is two registrations and two UINs.

What is the Triman logo?

The mandatory recycling mark in France for products and packaging subject to extended responsibility, accompanied by the sorting information. You are told how to apply it.
